Hadi Nazari, a 23-year-old medical student from Melbourne, was found alive and well after being lost for 13 days in Kosciuszko National Park. He had been missing since December 26, 2024, when he separated from his friends during a hiking trip.
Nazari was discovered near Blue Lake, over 10 kilometers from the campsite where he was supposed to reunite with his friends. Around 3:15 PM local time on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, a group of hikers heard Nazari calling out for help. He informed them that he was lost and severely dehydrated. The hikers promptly alerted emergency services, who airlifted Nazari to the search operation base for initial medical evaluation before transferring him to a hospital.
According to Superintendent Andrew Spliet of the New South Wales Police, Nazari was in good health, alert, and able to communicate. He had no significant injuries. During his time in the wilderness, Nazari survived by eating two muesli bars he found in a mountain hut, drinking from streams, and consuming wild berries.
At the search base, Nazari was reunited with his family in an emotional moment filled with relief and joy. The police commended the resilience and resourcefulness of the young medical student, who endured challenging conditions in the snow-covered mountainous terrain.
