Israel aims to capture 75% of Gaza within 2 months

May 25, 2025 — Israel’s military has announced plans to seize up to 75% of the Gaza Strip within two months, as part of an intensified ground campaign aimed at dismantling Hamas and asserting long-term control over most of the territory

According to international media reports, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) stated that the renewed offensive, launched on March 18 following the expiration of a two-month ceasefire, has already involved the deployment of five military divisions, comprising tens of thousands of troops.

The objective of the latest ground operation is to eliminate Hamas’s military infrastructure and governance in Gaza, with Israeli forces currently controlling around 40% of the territory.

Palestinians to Be Relocated into "Safe Zones"

As part of the operation, the IDF plans to push more than 2 million Palestinians into roughly 25% of Gaza, primarily into three designated “safe zones”. These include the Al-Mawasi area along Gaza’s southern coastline — a location previously declared a "humanitarian zone" by Israel.

According to Israeli assessments, approximately 700,000 Palestinians are already located in Al-Mawasi, while 300,000 to 350,000 reside in central Gaza. The remaining 1 million people, mostly concentrated in Gaza City, could soon face forced displacement under the current military campaign.

Long-Term Occupation and Infrastructure Dismantling

The IDF indicated that the military plans include not only occupation but also the dismantling of buildings and critical infrastructure believed to be used by Hamas. These operations suggest an indefinite Israeli military presence in much of Gaza.

The IDF anticipates that the majority of the territory — up to 75% — can be seized within just two months once the new phase of ground operations begins in full.

This development has already drawn concern from international observers, who warn of a worsening humanitarian crisis and the risk of mass displacement. Human rights groups have also raised alarm over the legality and impact of forcibly relocating millions of civilians into a small, overcrowded portion of land.
